The Current State of Internet

A reflection on the internet's evolution and decline

Tue Jan 27 2026

It's hard to express the frustration and sadness of having grown up first without the internet, then watching it emerge as this incredible, lively space—something useful, fun and connecting—only to see it collapse into an endless, suffocating cycle of noise.

What once felt like a shared creation has turned into a machine churning out content engineered for algorithmic approval, while even the simplest search now leads either to emptiness or an ocean of AI-generated sludge, none of it trustworthy or real.

For a brief, shining moment in early 2000s we built a modern Library of Alexandria, then we fed it through a shredder so advertisers could sell us back the scraps at a premium.
